SOUTH BEND - Leonard Swartz, 68, of West Monroe Street, died at 2:35 a.m. today in his home after an illness. Mr. Swartz retired from Gates Chevrolet Corp. He was born June 16, 1927, in South Bend.

On Oct. 2, 1948, in South Bend, he married Marie Tolmen. She survives with two daughters, Marlene Botka of North Liberty and Susan Ross of Phoenix; a son, Kevin of South Bend; six grandchildren; and a brother, Irvin of South Bend. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, having served in the Seabees. He was a member of Army-Navy Union 291, American Legion Pulaski Post 357, and was a social member of Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 155.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in St. Joseph Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home, where a rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County Inc.
