From the SOUTH BEND (IN) TRIBUNE, April 22, 2008:
BATTLE CREEK - Marie D. Magner, 86, of Battle Creek, Michigan, passed away Saturday, April 19, 2008, in the Evergreen Senior Care and Rehabilitation Center, Battle Creek. She was born October 20, 1921, in South Bend, Indiana, to Albin and Bertha (Janowiak) Hosinski. Mrs. Magner was a 1940 graduate of South Bend Central High School. After graduation, she was employed by McGann Securities as an administrative assistant. It was there that she met Charles W. Magner, whom she married on September 27, 1947, in St. Patrick Catholic Church in South Bend. They enjoyed 58 years of marriage until Charles' death in October 2005. Mrs. Magner is survived by two daughters, Mary (Ronald) Sine of Battle Creek, Michigan, and Anne (Anthony) Farrell of Champaign, Illinois; two sons, Michael (Denise) Magner of Arlington, Virginia, and Patrick (Maureen) Magner of Oak Park, Illinois; eight grandchildren, Erin (Brian) Sine Schneider, Katie (John) Sine Scheuerle, Tim Magner, Dan Magner, Sean Magner, Emma Magner, Abby Farrell and Max Farrell; and two great-grandchildren. Mrs. Magner's greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved to sew, and became an expert at many other types of needlework. With her generous spirit, most of the things she made were for others. She was an active member of the Christ Child Society, crafting many items to benefit their services. Her strong faith was demonstrated throughout her life. She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, Notre Dame, and served on their first parish council. Mrs. Magner was also an avid fan of Notre Dame athletics. She and her husband attended decades of events together in support of Notre Dame teams.
