John "Jay" Borich, 86, of Ozone Blvd., South Bend, Ind., passed away Saturday, June 22, in Hospice House in South Bend. He was born on Oct. 27, 1915, in High-bridge, Iowa, to Joseph and Mary (Madarich) Borich. On Oct. 12, 1940, ha was married to Genevieve "Jenny" (Oslakovich) in Chicago. Jay and Jenny moved to South Bend in 1952. Ha worked as a sheet metal worker, retiring in the late 1970s. He was a devoted husband of 61 years, a father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his wife, "Jenny," on Feb. 24, 2002, his mother and father, and by two sisters, Anne Bilich and Kay Laffey. He is survived by two daughters, Bonnie (Al) Hopper and Becky (Rick) Kapsa, both of Granger, Ind.; and two sons, John (Terry) Borich Jr. and Dennis (Cindy) Borich, both of South Bend; seven grandchildren, Jason (Michelle) Borich of Sugar Hill, Ga., Jamie (Leslie) Hopper of Indianapolis, Ind., Nick Kapsa of Warren, Rhode Island, Dustin Kapsa of Granger, Drew Borich of South Bend, Kerry Zieiinski of South Bend and Leslie Zielinski of South Bend; a sister-in-law, Eleanore Drozd of Chicago; and by a brother, Milo Borich of Waterloo, Iowa.Mr. Borich was best known for his euchre playing. Jay and Jenny would either be playing or competing in a tournament every day of the week from South Bend to Elkhart. Jay entertained his grandchildren with his quick wit and humorous stories. He was also an avid White Sox fan and enjoyed ail sports.He was a parishioner at Sacred Heart parish in Lakeville, Ind., was a member of the Sheet Metal Local Union #20, and the Moose Clubs in Mishawaka and Elkhart. Family and friends may call at ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 1827 East Ireland Road, South Bend, on Wednesday, June 26, 2002, from 2 to 8 p.m., where a Rosary will be said at 6:30 p.m. Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 27, in Sacred Heart Parish. Burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery. A special thank you to the staff at Hospice for the help and support you gave to both Jay and his family.
