MISHAWAKA - Theodore E. Werntz, 79, of Groveport, Ohio and formerly of Mishawaka, died Sunday, May 27, 2018 at his Groveport residence. He was born in Mishawaka on August 9, 1938, the son of Earl & Alice (Pengilley) Werntz. Ted served his country proudly with the U.S. Marine Corps, and retired after 20 years of service. Ted was a loving husband, father, & grandfather who was devoted to his family & friends. He enjoyed family cookouts and was fondly known as a prankster. He was a member of the VFW, the American Legion, the Order of Eagles, and was an avid Notre Dame fan. In his free time, he enjoyed working puzzles, building antique car models, and working with Legos. Ted is survived by his wife, Rose Werntz of Groveport; his children, Ralph (Patricia) Werntz of McArthur, OH, Theda (Don) Rioux of Blacklick, OH, Sally Freeburn of Battle Creek, MI, Jennifer Burns of Groveport, and Jannette (VaShawn White) Werntz of Reynoldsburg, OH; grandchildren, Nicholas (Jessica) Burns of Columbus, OH, Crystal Werntz of Hampton, VA, Alicia Werntz of Norfolk, VA, Jimmy Burns of Roseville, OH, Ramal McCarrel of Newark, OH, Janecia McCarrel and Rondale McCarrel, both of Columbus, Shannon Werntz of McArthur, OH, and Logan Goundrill of Battle Creek, MI; great-grandchildren, Tyler Lorenzon, Sebastian Burns, N.J. McCarrel, Carolyn Burns, and Noah McCarrel; brothers, Bill (Ruth) Werntz of Mishawaka and Tom Werntz of Mishawaka; and his sister, Sally Young of Mishawaka. Ted was preceded in death by his grandson, Theodore Werntz II; and his brother, Richard Werntz. Funeral Services are 10:00 Friday, June 1, 2018 in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Hwy. Friends may call from 5-8pm Thursday in the funeral home. Burial in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens with full military honors.
