ELKHART -- Donald Eugene Schalliol, 72, of 27708 C.R. 24, died at 4 a.m. Monday (Feb. 19, 2007) at LuAnn Nursing Home in Nappanee, where he had been for five years. He had been ill for 16 years. He was born Oct. 8, 1934, in Mishawaka to Jesse and Rema (Ranstead) Schalliol. On March 9, 1963, in Goshen, he married Malinda "Linda" Mast. She survives in Elkhart along with two daughters, Karen Shafer and Sharon Kirby, both of Elkhart; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Beulah Strycker of Wakarusa, Mary Sommers of Elkhart and DonnaBelle Aker of Goshen; and one brother, Richard Schalliol of Lakeville. He was preceded in death by one brother, Merlin Schalliol; and one sister, Emogene Webb. Private services will take place at Thompson-Lengacher & Yoder Funeral Home, 950 N. Main St., Nappanee. Pastor Brian Cray of Faith United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Olive West Cemetery. Mr. Schalliol had been a lifetime area resident and was retired as a truck driver for Indiana Foam, among many others. He was a member of the Elkhart Jaycees, Elkhart Civil Defense Auxiliary and Goshen Moose Lodge 836. Memorials may be given to Huntington's Disease research.
