MISHAWAKA - Catherine A. "Pat" Guentert, 92, of Mishawaka, Indiana, passed away Friday, January 17, 2014. She was born April 23, 1921, in South Bend, to Arthur & Priscilla (Barryo) Claffey. On September 9, 1937, Catherine married Roman L. Guentert, who preceded her in death on August 29, 2005. Catherine is survived by her children, Michelle (Wayne) Wydrzynski of Granger, Indiana, Patrick R. (Jane) Guentert of Niles, Michigan, and Norman L. (Vicki) Guentert of Niles, Michigan; grandchildren, Gretchen (Leon) Bertschy, Stephen (Kelly) Guentert, Andrea Guentert, Josua (Lillith) Guentert and Lisa Wydrzynski; great-grandchildren, Catherine, Abigail, & Erin Butler, Lauren & Nathan Guentert; a brother, James Arthur Claffey of Maryland; a brother-in-law, Frank Guentert of Illinois; and a sister-in-law, Cecilia Lowman of South Bend, Indiana. Catherine retired from the former J.E. Walz Furniture Store after 17 years of service. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church where she was married, a Eucharistic Minister, member of the Mothers Club and Altar & Rosary Society, and former member of the People of Praise. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 21, 2014, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, where friends may visit from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Cross Church Building Fund, 1520 Vassar Ave., South Bend, Indiana 46628; or the Hospice Foundation, 4220 Edison Lakes Pkwy., Suite 210, South Bend, Indiana 46545.
