UNION - Steve Vargo, 69, of Union, passed away at 10:57 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 18, 2012) in the emergency room at Elkhart General Hospital. He was born March 18, 1943 in Elkhart to Francis S. & Juanita L. (Went) Vargo. On Jan. 4, 1964 in Elkhart, he married Sonie S. Martin. She survives along with 1 daughter, Tammy S. (Tim) Hockabout of Elkhart; 1 son, Michael S. (Tammy) Vargo of Portage, IN; 5 grandchildren, Stephanie, Amber, Nowelle, Peter and Danny, and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Steve graduated in 1961 from Elkhart High School and attended Ball State University. He was a member of the Escapees RV Club Indiana Chapter #51; he enjoyed playing cards, traveling and being on the lake. Steve worked for 20 years as a production control manager at the Kent Company. He and his son Mike were co-owners of Tri-Lakes Sport Marine in Union. He retired in 2008. Visitation for family and friends will be from 4-8 p.m. on Friday at Walley-Mills-Zimmerman Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday (Sept. 22, 2012) at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rice Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Heart Association .
