Former Elkhart resident Mary Antone (Sarantos) Manos, 83, of South Bend fell asleep in the Lord on Wednesday, December 9, 2020 with her loving husband of 59 years, Andrew (Andy) at her side. Beloved mother of Stacey Greanias (Fr. James) of Valparaiso, IN, Elaine (Robert) Updike of Fishers, IN, and Valerie (Spiro) Roumeliotis of Corinth, Greece; cherished Yiayia of Louis & Maria Greanias, Andrea, Nina, & Melaina Updike, and Maria Roumeliotis; and one sister, Esther Arvanitis. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Ann. Mary was born February 15, 1937 in Elkhart to the late Anthony & Helen Sarantos. She grew up in Elkhart and graduated from Elkhart High School in 1955. She went on to receive her Associate Degree in Business and worked at C.G. Conn. Later she met and married Andy on June 11, 1961. Mary devoted her life to raising her three daughters who loved her so much. She was a lifetime member of St. Andrew Greek Orthodox Church and a member of the Good Samaritan’s Organization where she worked many years for the Church’s Greek festivals and shared her love for baking. After raising her children, she went to work at the Elkhart County Assessor’s Office. As she was confronted with medical challenges later in life, her husband, Andy, dedicated his life to caring for her daily with devotion. Mary loved and cherished Andy since the day they met 60 years ago. She loved watching her grandchildren grow and was very proud of them all. She enjoyed making them laugh and will always be remembered in their hearts as a fun-loving Yiayia. The family would like to extend a huge thank you to the staff at Wellbrooke of South Bend for the kindness, care, and love Mary received. Funeral services for Mary will be held Wednesday, December 16, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. (EST) at St. Andrew Greek Orthodox Church, 52455 Ironwood Rd., South Bend with Father George Konstantopoulos and Father James Greanias officiating.
