MISHAWAKA - Jeanette Anne Herczeg, 87, of Mishawaka, passed away peacefully at 3:35 p.m., Wednesday, October 15, 2008, in Elkhart General Hospital. Jeanette was born on June 15, 1921, to the union of William B. and Laurett (Shortgen) Carpenter. On May 4, 1940, she married Frank Herczeg. He passed away in August of 1990. She is also preceded in death by two brothers, William, Jr. and Richard; and one sister, Elaine Bonner. Jeanette is survived by two children, Frederick (Claire Forbes) Herczeg of Agoura Hills, CA and Phyllis (Art Konecny) Herczeg of Elkhart, IN; four grandchildren, Jessica, Elizabeth, Erica, and Alicia. She is also survived by one sister, Joyce (Jon) McDaniel of Auburn; and one brother, Lee Carpenter of Hicksville, OH. Jeanette graduated from Strycker High School, class of 1939, where she was a member of the National Honor Society and a Cheerleader. She spent time working at Ball Band, Elkhart County Welfare Department and St. Joseph Valley Bank of Elkhart. She was very active, belonging to many organizations and activities including being a Camp Fire Leader for 12 years, Election Poll Volunteer, Diocesan Catholic Council of Women, and Marian High School Mother's Club. She was a member of Queen of Peace Catholic Church, Mishawaka, where she was an Usher and Proclaimer. She was a
member of the Rosary Societies of Queen of Peace, Mishawaka, St. Dominick's, Bremen and St. Agnes, Phoenix She will be remembered for her love of gardening and family genealogy. She loved to quilt, sew, travel and complete crossword puzzles and also loved her cat, Isabella. Visitation will be held from 2 to 6 p.m., Sunday, October 19, 2008, in Chapel Hill Funeral Home, 10776 McKinley Highway, Osceola, with a Rosary to be recited at 5:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a. m., Monday, October 20, 2008, in Queen of Peace Catholic Church, 4508 Vistula Rd, Mishawaka, with one hour of visitation prior to Mass in the Church. Burial will take place at St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery, Waterloo, IN at 1:30 p.m., Monday, October 20, 2008.
