SOUTH BEND - John M. Kandzierski, 87, passed away at 12:10 pm Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center with his loving family by his side. John was born September 29, 1925, in South Bend, to the late Ignatius and Martha (Walkowiak) Kandzierski, and had lived in South Bend all his life. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Stanley and Bert Kandzierski; sister, Theresa Goralski; brothers-in-law, Jerome Golubski, Eugene Goralski and Leonard Skwarcan; and sister-in-law, Virginia Kandzierski. John is survived by his sisters, Josephine Golubski and Phyllis Skwarcan. Although a lifelong bachelor, he was greatly loved by his nieces and nephews, Judy (Richard Troutman) Kandzierski, Robert (Tena) Kandzierski, Patricia Golubski, Barbara (David) Kaminskas, Ann (Warren) Ganser, Denise Goralski, Gregory Goralski, Gary Goralski, Dennis (Shannon) Goralski, Chuck (Tara Miller) Kandzierski and Todd (Areta) Skwarcan. He is also survived by many great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews. John proudly served his country during WW II with the United States Army 112, parachuting into combat on many occasions. He worked for Studebaker's until its closing, and then for AM General from which he retired. John was a very active and very dedicated member of the PNA Lodge #83 and a member of the American Legion Post #357. He loved to fish and belonged to the PNA Fisherman's Club. He was a parishioner of St. Adalbert Catholic Church, where he served as an usher for many years. John loved to travel and took many trips to Hawaii and Las Vegas. The family would like to thank the staff of West Bend Nursing Home Center for the many years of loving care. Also, thanks to his physicians and especially the nursing staff of the 6th floor at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center who saw to his comfort in his last days. Visitation for John will be held 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Thursday, January 24, 2013, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be prayed at 4 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Friday, January 25, 2013, in St. Adalbert Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
