Joseph Lee Avery, 89, passed away on Friday May 13, 2022 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. Joseph was born on January 29, 1933 in Mishawaka to the late Ross B. and Ruth M. (Hickey) Avery. Joseph married the late Linda (Nelson) Avery on August 16, 1958 in South Bend. He was also preceded in death by a son, Joseph Avery II. He is survived by his daughters, Jody Avery of La Porte, Janette (Michael) Wolf of Elkhart; a daughter-in-law, Diane Avery of Lakeville; 2 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; a sister, Arlene Avery of Churubusco; and a brother, John Avery of Mishawaka; and beloved nieces and nephews. Joseph loved cars and raced stock cars as a young man. Joe enjoyed scratch off lottery tickets and wintering on Anna Marie Island, Florida with Linda. Joe retired from AM General where he worked as a resident Engineer. He was particularly proud of being a part of the team that designed the Lunar Landing Module. Family and friends may call on Wednesday, May 18th from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 on Wednesday May 18th with Reverend Bob Vale officiating at the Palmer Funeral Home, Bubb Chapel 3910 Main St, Mishawaka 36545. Memorials may be made to the Robert L. Miller Sr. Veterans Center , 747 S Michigan St, South Bend In 46601.
