SOUTH BEND - James "Jim" Megyese, 65, passed away at 5:02 AM Wednesday, April 9, 2014, at his home in the presence of his family. Jim was born May 23, 1948, in South Bend, to Stephen Emery and Marian Willetta (Diedrich) Megyese, and has been a lifelong resident of the area. Jim graduated from South Bend Riley High School in 1966. He worked for twenty-two years at Uniroyal Corporation and most recently owned and operated his own business, Mega-C Pest Control, until he retired due to his health. On October 25, 1969, in South Bend, he was united in marriage to Patricia A Hatfield. Jim proudly served in the United States Army and was a Vietnam War veteran, serving on active duty from 1967 1970. He was a member of the Deer Run Church of Christ in South Bend. While Jim enjoyed watching movies, fishing, and fixing and repairing all sorts of things, his real joy came from spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Jim is survived by his wife, Pat Megyese of South Bend; daughter, Missie (David) Hurt of South Bend; son, Timothy Megyese of Mishawaka; grandchildren, Maddie and Brandon Hurt of South Bend; sister, Janice Woodcox of South Bend; brothers, Bob Megyese of Collinsville, IL, and Tom (Darlene) Megyese of South Bend; sister-in-laws, Laura Mezzoni of South Bend and Sue (Rick) Davis of Mishawaka; and many nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen E. and Marian W. Megyese; brother, Stephen Ronald Megyese Sr.; sister-in-law, Jeannette Megyese; and brothers-in-law, Denny Woodcox and Mark Mezzoni. Memorial Service for Jim will be at 5:00 PM Tuesday, April 15th, 2014, at Palmer Funeral Home River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend, IN 46615, with a two-hour visitation prior. Inurnment will take place at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park at a later date.
