Raymond Richard “Ray” Micinski passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2017. He was born on February 10, 1925 to the late Matthew and Clara (Demski) Micinski in South Bend, Indiana. He was a life-long resident of South Bend. Ray proudly served in the United States Navy during World War II earning the nicknamed “Big Red” due to his vibrant red hair. He worked at Studebaker for twenty years along with the United States Postal Service. Raymond retired from the United States Postal Service after twenty years. On February 5, 1955, he married the former Alfrieda Rose (Litka) DeBeck, who preceded him in death on April 17, 1992. Ray was also predeceased by one brother Eugene “Jim” Micinski and one sister Mary Ann Deranek. Ray is survived by two sons, Russell Micinski of South Bend and Kenneth (Debora) Micinski of Mishawaka, Indiana; stepson Marcel Jeffery DeBeck of Indio, California; stepdaughter Suzann Debeck of Plymouth, Indiana; and sister Lorraine Szymanski of South Bend. He also leaves behind granddaughters Sara (Ryan) Kuzmicz and Melissa (Frank) Squadroni, and great- grandchildren Bailey and Gavin Kuzmicz, all of Mishawaka. Visitation for Raymond will be from 4:00 until 8:00 pm on Thursday June 29, 2017 in the Kaniewski Funeral Home 3545 N. Bendix Dr, South Bend, IN 46628. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday June 30, 2017 in the Kaniewski Funeral Home. Interment will take place at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday July 5, 2017 in Highland Cemetery, where members of the United States Navy and the American Legion Post #357 with conduct Military Honors. Ray’s hobbies included traveling to Navy reunions, casinos, watching sports, and bird watching outside his window. He belonged to the Destroyer Escort Sailors Association, the Destroyer Escort Historical Museum, American Legion Post 357 and Z. B. Falcons. In lieu of flowers, Ray’s family requests donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or The Center for Hospice Care. Online condolences may be left at www.kaniewski.com.
