SOUTH BEND - Merry Rose Stepien, age 53, of South Bend, died peacefully on Wednesday June 7, 2017 in her son's home in Ohio. She was born September 7, 1963 to the late John and Mieczyslawa Stepien. Merry loved spending time with her family, especially her grandsons. She loved to shop, whether it be garage sales, auctions or stores and would often travel just to hunt out the next great store she had never been to. She enjoyed celebrating holidays in grand style with all the fixins and presents for all. She was the queen of celebrations. She was a single mom and anyone who knew Merry well would tell you about how hard of a worker she was, always trying to provide for her son. Merry is survived by her brothers, Waclaw, Rich (Vicki), Ed and Stan; her sister, Adelle Kretchmer, her son, Shane (Bernadette) Gabaree, several nieces and nephews, specifically Ricky McCarty who was like a 2nd son to her, her brother-in-law, Gary Reid and her grandsons, Shane Gabaree Jr. (10) and Alexander Gabaree (7). Her parents and sister, Nancy Reid preceded her in death. There will be a Memorial Service on June 17th beginning at 12:30 at St. Joseph Funeral Home with a small gathering afterwards.
