She "grew up" in the Candy Kitchen on N. Main Street in Mishawaka, which her parents operated in the 1940s through 1960s. Bertha graduated from Mishawaka High School and attended Indiana University, Bloomington. She worked over 30 years in the payroll department of Dodge Manufacturing. She was a lifelong member of St. Andrew Greek Orthodox Church and Gaia Chapter #60 of the Daughters of Penelope. She married Kosta Kapatanakes in 1954, and later John Terry Sr. Surviving are four children and their families, Mantea and Jack Schmid of Dubuque, Iowa, Helene and Paul McCormick of Mishawaka, Louis Frank Kapatanakes of South Bend, John and Tammy (Patillo) Terry of South Bend.
