SOUTH BEND - Eugene "Pete" Vitale, 87, residing in South Bend, passed away at 2:00 pm Monday, September 1, 2014, at Signature Healthcare. He was born April 24, 1927, in South Bend, to the late Nazzarino and Lillian (Martino) Vitale, and remained a lifelong area resident. On January 12, 1949, in South Bend, Pete married the former Mary Ann Garber, who preceded him in death on April 23, 1992. He was also preceded by sisters, Virginia Moore and Rosemary Vitale. Pete is survived by children, Lorraine L. Vitale, Eugene Michael Vitale and Christopher Lee (Teri) Vitale, all of South Bend; three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; one sister, Louise Draves of Mishawaka; and several nieces and nephews. Pete served his country honorably in the United States Army. He worked as a TV technician and retired from Radio Furniture Mart. Funeral services for Pete will be held at 2:00 pm Friday, September 5, 2014, in the Palmer Funeral Home - Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend, IN, where friends may visit with the family for one hour prior. Military graveside services and burial will follow at Highland Cemetery.
