John Wilk, Jr., 73, of Battle Creek passed away unexpectedly Thursday, April 23, 2009 at Battle Creek Health System. He was a husband, father and loving grandfather. He was born November 12, 1935 in Battle Creek, MI the son of John Sr. and Mary (Szmyd) Wilk. He married Shirley M. Davis on May 23, 1964 in Battle Creek and they were happily married for 45 years. John attended Battle Creek Public Schools. John worked at Nabisco for 15 years until the business relocated; then he joined Conrail Railroad and served 15 years. He was also employed at the PNA, and American Legion Post #54. John enjoyed the finer things of life like fishing with his brothers, hosting Saturday night card games, keeping a well manicured lawn and a beautiful garden. Most important he looked forward to hunting with the "guys" up north. He also enjoyed going to bingo and spending time with his family and grandchildren. He is survived by his wife, Shirley M. Wilk; sons, John (Mari) Wilk, Joe (Laura) Wilk; daughters, April (Donnie) Lewis, Kellie (Tony) Floro and Jennifer (William) Joiner; 14 grandchildren; 1 great-grandson; brothers, Chester, Stan, Louie, Jack (Kuba); and sisters, Emily Lentych, Irene Mellich, Julia Shirk, Dolores Billington, Pat Gresley He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Tommy Wilk. Visitation will be held at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service on Sunday from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday, 1:00 p.m. at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service with Pastor Chuck Winter officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial tributes may be made to the family. Arrangements by the Bachman Hebble Funeral Service, a member by invitation Selected Independent Funeral Homes.
