Ben was the first of two children born to Earl C. Mishler and Zazel Ada Wakley, who married on 14 Nov 1914 in Fulton County, Indiana. He arrived on 3 Jul 1916. On his 5 Jun 1917 WWI registration card, Earl, aged 22, reported that he was living and farming in Plymouth, Marshall Co., Indiana, and that he had a wife and one child--Benjamin. He described himself as of medium height and build, with blue eyes and brown hair. On 30 Jun 1918, Ben's sister Mary Jane joined the family. By 1920, Earl and Zazel had moved the family to Turkey Creek, Kosciusko County, Indiana. Earl, aged 24, was working as a blacksmith. Zazel, aged 22, was home with Ben, aged 3 and Mary Jane, aged 1. In 1930, they were in Warsaw, Kosciusko County. Earl, aged 35, was the foreman of an electric company, likely NIPSCO. Zazel, aged 38, was working as a saleslady in a novelty store. Son Ben, aged 13, was earning a little money as a newsboy for a daily paper, and daughter Mary Jane, aged 11, was noted as a magazine salesgirl. Also living with the family was 21-year-old boarder Ruby Boone, employed as a cupboard girl at a hotel. By 1940, Earl and Zazel had again relocated, this time to Union Township (Culver area), Marshall County, Indiana. Earl, aged 45, was the District Manager of a Public Utility Company, identified as NIPSCO on his WWII registration card. Zazel, aged 43, was the proprietor of a retail grocery store. Both children had married. Ben had married Blanche E. Mudra circa 1939, and they were living with Earl and Zazel that census year. Ben, aged 23, was identified as a new worker. Also living with the family was 18-year-old lodger Louise Wilson. Daughter Mary Jane married Harold Dewayne Parker on 5 Sep 1936. She had a second marriage from which she picked up the Crump surname. After about forty years together Ben lost wife Blanche on 12 Jul 1979 when she was 61. Ben died on 31 Jan 1995 in Culver, Marshall County, Indiana at age 78.
