Michael Robert Peterek, 60, of Edwardsburg, passed away on Saturday, September 25, 2021. Mike was born on February 3, 1961, to Robert and Patricia (Waaso) Peterek in Michigan City, Indiana. Mike was an avid outdoorsman his entire life. He loved hunting, fishing, and camping early in life with his father and later in life with his three children. He grew up on the shores of Lake Michigan with many good, lifelong friends. He graduated from River Valley High School where he played multiple sports and was the MVP of the 1979 State Basketball Championship. He went onto Ferris State University where he joined the Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity and earned a degree in Business Marketing. After graduation, he moved to the Detroit area working in the auto industry in purchasing. After the birth of his daughter, Maddy, he and his then-wife moved back to their home area of Southwest Michigan where he continued to work purchasing in the manufacturing industry. They later had two sons, Mitch and Tyler. Mike took great pride in all of his children's academic and sporting achievements. He often coached their sporting endeavors and always supported their dreams. His three children were his pride and joy. Mike lived life on his own terms. His adult life was a struggle with diabetes which he eventually succumbed to. His family and friends hope he is in a better place and out of life's pains. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert. Mike is survived by his children, Madalynn Peterek of Chicago, Mitchell (Camille) Peterek of Troy, Michigan, and Tyler Peterek of Niles; mother, Patricia Peterek of Niles; siblings, Jeffrey Peterek of Niles and Roberta Craig of Las Vegas; nieces and nephews; and many extended family members and close friends. A memorial service to honor Mike’s life will be held at Brown Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, October 3, 2021.
