SOUTH BEND - John Garbacz, 77, of 1034 Hermitage Drive, died at 11:55 p.m. Sunday in Countryside Place, Mishawaka. Mr. Garbacz retired in 1980 from Torrington Co. after 43 years as a foreman in quality control. He was born Sept. 2, 1916, in South Bend and was a lifelong area resident. On June 28, 1946, in South Bend, he married Evelyn Aftowski. She survives with two daughters, Kimberly Lundgren and Joyce Wisemiller, both of South Bend; four sons, John L. of South Bend, David J. of Hawaii, Larry A. of Harrison Township, Mich., and Kevin M. of Crown Point, Ind.; four granddaughters; a sister, Ann George of North Palm Beach, Fla.; and three brothers, Alex of Lake Park, Fla., Michael Sr. of North Palm Beach and Nicholas III of Palm Beach, Fla. He was a veteran of World War II and member of Moose Lodge, Robin Hood Men's Golf Club and Elbel Men's Golf Club, Mishawaka. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Hollis-Orvis-Palmer Funeral Home. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Joseph County Inc. or any charity.
