LAPORTE - Mrs. Norma Lynn Kaminski, 88, of La Porte, passed away Friday, April 25, 2014, at 11:15 a.m. at her home. She was born on July 22, 1925, in Wabash, Indiana, to William D. and Hazel (Deeter) Lynn, and had lived in LaPorte since 1950. On October, 28, 1950, in Wabash, Indiana, she married Leon R. Kaminski, who survives. Norma was a graduate of Wabash High School, attended Western College for Women and graduated with honors from Indiana University. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. She attended Indiana University School of Law and attended Indiana University School of Library Science for master's level studies. She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and was President of the St. Peter Home and School Association, President of the St. Peter Parish Council, member of the St. Peter Joan of the Arch Circle and a member of the Gary Diocese Education Commission. She was also a member of the AAUW, the LaPorte Service League, President of the Community Concert Association and a member of the American Needlepoint Guild. Norma is survived by her husband, Leon; daughters, Anne (Donald) Barnes of Metairie, Louisiana, and Lynn (Connor) Flahive of Arlington, Texas; and sons, Daniel D. (Kathryn) Kaminski of LaPorte, Paul E. Kaminski (Rich Bonin) of Minneapolis, Minnesota, James W. (Lizabeth) Kaminski of La Porte, and William S. (Constance) Kaminiski of LaPorte; 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; sister, Virginia McSpadden of Wabash, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. The Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, May 3, 2014, at St. Peter Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m., with Rev. Ian Williams officiating. Visitation will be on Friday, May 2, 2014, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., and Saturday, May 3, 2014, from 9:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. at the Essling Funeral Home, with the Rosary at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, May 2, 2014. Memorials may be made to the Unity Foundation of LaPorte County, St. Peter Catholic Church or the Foundation in support of IU Health LaPorte Hospital.
