Walter Dudka
Oct. 12, 1923 - Oct. 2, 2012
SOUTH BEND - Walter Dudka, 88, passed away peacefully at 11:00 am Wednesday, October 3, 2012. Walter was born in Chniedawa, Poland to the late John and Anna (Dyczak) Dutka. He was preceded in death by his wife Maria, infant son John and eight siblings. Walter, Maria and their daughter Helen came to the United States in 1949. He is survived by his children, Helen (Joseph) Brosilo of Chicago, IL, and their sons, Mike and Chris (Jessica) and their children, Eden and Asher; Janice (Lawrence) Lijewski of Shalimar, FL, and their children, Paul and Marianne; Edward (Julie) Dudka of Niles, and their children, Heather (Paul) Lindgren and Shawn; Thaddeus (Karen) Dudka of South Bend, and their children, Jennifer and Zachary; Rev. Stanley (Nancy) Dudka of South Bend, and their children, Nicole and Bryce. Walter retired after working 37 years for the University of Notre Dame, most of those years in Food Service management. Walter loved interacting with the students, especially the football players and other sport athletes. He was a huge fan of the football team and enjoyed attending games. He was a member of St. Adalbert Catholic Church where he served many years as an usher. He was a member of Haller's Post. Walter deeply loved the Polish Community of friends that settled in the South Bend area. Walter was a professional meat carver and hired to cut various meats at local banquet events. He had a passion and love for cooking. He made and smoked his own sausage from his grandfather's recipe. No one cooked prime rib on the grill like Walter. A handshake with his huge hands meant more than any signed contract. Visitation for Walter will be 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Sunday, October 7, 2012 in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Rd., where a Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 pm Monday, October 8, 2012 in St. Adalbert Catholic Church. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed towards The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, Indiana 46637.
