SOUTH BEND - Ronald James Szalay, 67, of Irving, Texas, passed away on May 25, 2014. Ron was born in South Bend, Indiana, to Nicholas Szalay and Mary (Deranek) Szalay, who predeceased him. He is survived by a brother, Robert, a sister, Marilyn (Szalay) Emerick, two nephews and two nieces. Ron attended John Adams High School in South Bend, graduating in 1965. After attending Indiana University, Ron worked in the oil industry in Louisiana and the hospitality and food service industry in Texas. Ron would like to be remembered for his long time interest in art, music and writing. Services will be private. Memorial donations may be made to the local American Cancer Society .
