Ruth M. Hanna , 99, of Magician Lake, Dowagiac, Mich., formerly of South Bend, Ind., passed away at 10:55 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 7, in the Cass County Medical Care Facility, Cassopolis, Mich. She was born June 14, 1905, in Stone Hill, Noble County, Ind., as the daughter of Earle and Ola (Fry) Flowers, who are deceased. She married Curtis M. Hanna on July 3, 1929. He also preceded her in death in 1985, along with one brother, William Flowers, and two sisters, Doris Flowers and Pauline Ritter. Mrs. Hanna is survived by a son, David (Jolene) Hanna ; three granddaughters, Jill (Douglas) Wileman, Judy (Roger) Day and Jennifer (Gary) Pfledderer; and seven great-grandchildren, Whitney and Wesley Wileman, Trevor, Carly and Zoie Day, and Alec and Maxwell Pfledderer. She was the happiest when her lake home was full of granddaughters, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. During the week she looked forward to having lunch with her friends. Ruth graduated from Ligonier High School in 1923. Before retirement she worked for Sears and Roebuck in the hardware department and catalog order department from 1949 through 1969. She was a member of the Silvercreek United Methodist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star, and served for several local charities. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, in the Silvercreek United Methodist Church, with Pastor Mark Thompson officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Private burial of her cremains will be at a later date at Southlawn Cemetery in South Bend. Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund at the Silvercreek United Methodist Church, 31994 Middlecrossing Road, Dowagiac, MI 49047. The McLauchlin-Clark-Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Published in the South Bend Tribune; Nov. 12, 2004.
