In 1889, in the Polish Catholic parish of Znin, Michael Kranc, 27, son of John & Marianna Gorecka Kranc, married Frances Nowak, née Lewinski, a widow. (Poznan Marriage Indexing Project)
According to the 1900 federal census of South Bend, Indiana, Michael Kranc and his wife Frances were both born in Poland, had been married 10 years, had immigrated in 1892, and Frances had had six children, two living: Czeslaw and Ludwika, both born in Poland.
Frances Kranc died in South Bend on Sep. 27, 1908 at the age of 57. (WPA, Indiana. Index to Death Records; and the interment records of St. Hedwig Catholic Church, South Bend, Indiana)
On May 4, 1909, Rev. Val Czyzewski, C.S.C., married Michael Kranc and Frances Palicki in St. Joseph Co., Indiana. The marriage applications they filed with the county include the following information: Michael Kranc, a laborer in South Bend, was born Sep. 19, 1865 (sic) in Prussia to John & Mary Odzienezewski Kranc. It was his second marriage, his first having ended by death in September of 1908. Frances Palicki, a resident of South Bend, was born in South Bend on Jan. 20, 1876 to Martin & Julia Wawrzyniak Palicki. It was her first marriage.
According to the 1910 census of South Bend, the household of Michael and Frances Kranc included their son Wladyslaw Kranc and Michael's stepson, Czelaw Nowak.
Wladyslaw/Ladislaus Kranc died at the age of 8 months, and was interred in Cedar Grove Cemetery. (Interment records of St. Hedwig Catholic Church)
In the 1920 and 1930 census records the household of Michael and Frances Kranc included the following children (in birth order): Margaret, John, Mary, and Joseph Kranc, and Michael's stepson, Czelaw/Chester Nowak, who became the proprietor of a real estate agency.
