SOUTH BEND - Mary Lee Tomaszewski, 81, of South Bend, IN, passed away at 2:12 p.m. Saturday, July 23, 2011, in her home. Mary Lee worked 38 years at the Al Ruth Diner, changing the name to Mary Lee's Kitchen. She was owner and operator for the next 12 years, retiring in 1998. Mary Lee was born March 13, 1930, in Florence, Alabama, to the late John L. and Sarah (Eaton) Cody, and had lived in South Bend since 1946, coming from Alabama. On April 22, 1961, in South Bend, she married Stanley Tomaszewski, who preceded her in death on July 23, 2006. Survivors include one daughter, Lorraine Baum of South Bend; two sons, Larry (Linda) Tomaszewski of Selmer, TN, and Gary (Colleen) Trapp of South Bend; 13 grandchildren, Sarah Trapp, Jennifer Trapp and Gary Trapp Jr., Cassidy, Cherri Brook, Cody Tomaszewski, Gary Tomaszewski, Jeremiah Coggins, Robert O'Neal Turner, Angela Turner, Katelyn Evans, Nicolette Gibson and Rocky McCray; 15 great-grandchildren, Desirae and Corrine Alvarez, Christopher Tomaszewski, Brandon, Austin, Cheyanne, Zachary, Breanna and Cordae Turner, Jason and Jaylyn Gibson, James "Scooter" Hays, Cason and Brennan Coggins, and Gary Trapp III; and one great-great-granddaughter, Larissa Marie. Also surviving are three sisters, Jean Haddock of Smyrna, TN, Sarah Gibson of Rogersville, AL, and Betty Gee of Selmer, TN; and many nieces and nephews including Sandy Switalski; and a special friend, Clara Thorton. There are two sisters, Ada Mae Cody and Katherine Adkins, who preceded her in death. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 27, 2011, in the Lydick United Methodist Church, 26510 Edison Road, South Bend, IN 46628. Pastor Jim Toole will officiate. Burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Palmer Funeral Home - Guisinger Chapel, 3718 South Michigan Street, South Bend, IN 46614.
