South Bend - Frank Piontek, 72, of South Bend passed away on November 5, 2021 at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. He was born on August 22, 1949 to Josephine (Lucic) and Harry Piontek and grew up on the East Side of Chicago. He had twin brothers, Michael and Joseph. He enlisted in the Marines in December 1967 and served in Vietnam. He entered into marriage with Susan Lee in April 1982. Together, they raised three children: Jason, Anna (Christopher Sloan), and Rachel. Frank worked as a healthcare consultant for Holy Cross and Trinity Health Systems in South Bend. He was an author of many scientific publications and an expert on biostatistics. An active leader, he enjoyed encouraging younger family members, including his grandchildren and a beloved niece. He was an avid golfer, keen writer and philosopher, and tireless advocate for veteran's access to healthcare benefits. Frank had a unique point of view and challenged others to use their voices for change as he did.
