SOUTH BEND - George J. Wisniewski, 93, passed away at 1:45 p.m. on Friday, October 9, 2009, in Healthwin. George was born on March 11, 1916, in LaPorte, IN, to the late John and Julia (Wichlinski) Wisniewski. On February 22, 1942, George married Lucile (Wojciechowski), who passed away in May 2008. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Cyril and Joseph; and sisters, Wanda, Lillian, Rose, Agnes and Irene. George is survived by his niece, Rosemarie (Richard) Garis of South Bend. George honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a maintenance superintendent for Bendix for 44 years before he retired in 1981. He was the oldest member of American Legion Post 284 for 61 continuous years, and enjoyed fishing, hunting, target shooting and photography. George always enjoyed a good steak! Visitation was from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14th, in ST. JOSEPH FUNERAL HOME, 824 S. Mayflower Road, where a Rosary was prayed at 4:30 p.m. Family and friends will gather in Christ the King Catholic Church for the 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial today, Oct. 15th. Entombment will be in Guardian Angels Mausoleum at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society , P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718; or to Christ the King Catholic Church, 52473 St. Road 933, South Bend, IN 46637. For those who are unable to attend to the funeral liturgy, condolences for the family may be made at www.sjfh.net.
