EDWARDSBURG - Michael Joseph Jakubiak, 69 years old, of Christiana Lake, Edwardsburg, passed to his rest June 2, 2018 at his home after a brief illness. He was born August 1, 1948 in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Marion and Elizabeth (Miloser) Jakubiak and attended Pershing High School. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1968 and served three years. He later worked for Conrail Railroad, becoming a conductor; he then worked for Norfolk Southern Railway, from which he retired. He was married to Kathaleen M. Krakowski, and she survives with children, Denise (Phil) Delue of Granger, Brian (Nicole) Jakubiak of Columbus, MI, Eric Jakubiak of Warren, MI, Derek (Angie) Long of Edwardsburg, and Renee (Javier) Avila of Edwardsburg. There are ten grandchildren and one great-grandchild, as well as a sister, Mary Ann (Al) Zielinski of Sterling Heights, MI. Michael was a member of the Edwardsburg American Legion Post 365 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2284. He enjoyed being in his ‘barn' at his home and doing little things that he liked. Family and friends may gather on Saturday, June 9, 2018 from 10:00-11:00 AM at the Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home, 26863 West Main Street, Edwardsburg for a time of visitation. Cremation has taken place. A Christian Memorial Service will begin at 11:00 AM, Saturday, at the funeral home, with father Bob Flickinger, Pastor of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, officiating. Following the service, the United States Army Honor Guard, the American Legion, and the V.F.W. will present honors of the Firing Squad, TAPS, and folding the American Flag. Inurnment will be at a later date in Adamsville Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to Cass County Animal Shelter, 323 M-62 North, Cassopolis, MI 49031 or any animal shelter.
