Memories ...South Bend Tribune 5/25/2016
I so enjoyed the article, “Cookbook has a special ingredient” (Tribune, May 15) and the story of Millie Rosenfeld, now 98. I remember her husband well. I grew up on east Howard Street and as a boy I lived across the street from Phil Rosenfeld’s grocery store. The eldest son, Nathan, and his wife, Esther, lived directly across the street from me. As a young teen, I baby-sat for Nathan’s two children, Barry and Marian. Barry visited me years later when he was a young man. His mother collected funds from the neighborhood for a floral gift when my mother died in 1954. I never forgot her kindness. I remember all the Rosenfelds and daughter Shirley. The Rosenfelds were and are a credit to our city. God bless them all.
