Gladys Ewald, 99, of
the Cardinal Health and Rehabilitation Center, South Bend, Ind. Died at 11:32
a.m. on Monday, April 28, at Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Ewald was born May 22,
1897 in Buffalo, N.Y., and lived in this area for 80 years, coming from
Buffalo. She was the daughter of William Cholasinski and Mary Krusczinski.
She was married on
Nov. 6, 1919, in St. Adalbert Catholic Church, in South Bend as Gladys
Cholasinski, to Louis Ewald. He preceded her in death on Feb. 14, 1956. She was
also preceded in death by a daughter, Helen Rans in 1978. Mrs. Ewald is
survived by four daughters, Dorothy Kedik and Theresa Jannasch, both of South
Bend, Irene Mackey of Montana and Delores Gibbs of Alabama; 18 grandchildren;
34 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and by two sisters,
Harriet Pittman and Virginia Ziolkowski, both of South Bend. Friends may call
from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the St. Joseph Funeral Home, where a
rosary will be said at 6 p.m. on Thursday. Services will be at 10 p.m. on
Friday at Holy Family Catholic Church, with burial to follow in St. Joseph
Cemetery.
