1.  CHARLES FREDERICK1 ESPICH was born Abt. 1820 in Ragersville, Tuscarawas, Ohio.  He married SARAH JANE LINK.  She was born Abt. 1820 in Ragersville, Tuscarawas, Ohio.

Charles Frederick Espich, born in Ragersville, Tuscarawas, Ohio.  Charles married Sarah Jane Link in Ragersville and lived there until about 1867 then they headed to LInkville, Indiana. Note: Many Ragersville residents were encouraged to join the Seltonrights in Linkville when they left to start up a mill.

 

After Sarah Jane died, Charles went over to Well's county and married a former Ohio Girl and had seven more children with her.  Charles was in the 51st Ohio Volunteer Infantry.

2.  MICHAEL F2 ESPICH (CHARLES FREDERICK1) was born November 1845 in Ragersville, Tuscarawas, Ohio, and died May 21, 1901 in Plymouth, Marshall County, IN.  He married MARY ARNOLD 1878 in Plymouth, Marshall County, IN.  She was born March 1856 in Nashville, Ohio, and died February 25, 1923 in Plymouth, IN.

Obituary Pymouth Rebublican (5/23/1901)

Michael F Espich died at his home at Linkville, Tuesday Evening of Cancer of the stomach, after lingering at the point of death for several days. He was 56 years old, was an old soldierand had been a citizen of Linkville for many years. He leaves a wife Mary (Arnold) Espich, four sons, one daughter, brothers, sisters and othe relatives. The funeral will be held at Fairmount Church at 1:30 Thursday. The Grand Army Post of this city will attend.

Additional information:

I have Michael's pension file.  His parents are not from Ireland.  His father is Charles Frederick Espich, born in Ragersville, Tuscarawas, Ohio.  Charles married Sarah Jane Link in Ragersville and lived there until about 1867 then they headed to LInkville, Indiana. After Sarah Jane died, Charles went over to Well's county and married a former Ohio Girl and had seven more children with her.  Charles was in the 51st OVI.  Michael was in the Mexican war in 1861 Company K, 51st, O. V. I. and had several transfers, he was discharged June 1863 at Franklin, Tennessee from his first enlistment, which he enrolled at 15 years of age. He was also in G company of the 51st Jan 1862 and was discharged from his second enlistment at Feb 12, 1864 at Murfreesboro, Tennessee. Obituary 2/27/1923

 

Mrs Mary Arnold Espich was born in Nashville Onio March of 1856 and departed this life February 25 1923at the home of her daughter Mrs Elmer Chancy 425 Lake Ave being 66 years old 11 months and 24 days. She united with the United Brethern Church in her early years and always adhered to the faith. She was united in marriage to Michael F Espich September 2 1897. There was born to them five children, Harry of LaPorte, Fred of Plymouth, Frank of South Bend, and Mrs Elmer Chaney and Herbert of Plymouth. Also two brothers, William Arnold of Cleveland Ohio and John Arnold of Plymouth and a sister Viola Arnold of Plymouthand a host of friends and other relatives. Funeral services were held in the Federated Church Rev Murrer officiating and burial was in the Oak Hill Cemetery.

ALEX M ANDRZEJEWSKI

d] 30 Oct 1982.  Former So BEnd Fire Chief Alex Andrzejewski, 75, of Wilbur St, died at 5:30 p.m. Sat. in the emergency room at Pawating Hospital in Niles MI after becoming ill while at his summer home at Barron Lake. [PICTURE IN PAPER]

He was employed with the SBd Fire Dept. for 30 years, serving as fire chief for 12 years under Mayors Edward F Voorde and George A Schock.  He was also the IN Toll Road Safety Director & was named bailiff in Feb of 1969 to the St JOs Co Circuit Court.

Retiring his fire chief position in Jan of 1964, he was honored for "his insistence on training... [and] techniques and modernization of stations and equipment; he made this one of the finest fire departments in the country."

A lifetime South Bend resident, he was born 11 Jul 1907, and in 1928 married VIOLET ASPICH.  She died in Apr 1944.  Then on Jun 26 1948 he married ELANOR  DeVREESE, who survives along with a daughter, Mrs. Timothy [Melanie] Brasselll of SBd, a son Jack of SBd, 7 grandchildren, a great grandson, and two sisters: Mrs Agnes Miller of South Bend  and Mrs Genevieve Rutkowski of Mishawaka.

He was a member of Third Degree Santa Maria Council 533 Knights of Columbus, the Father Neiuwland Fourth Assembly Degree K of C, the Choraliers, PNA 83, So Bend Press Club, M R Falcons, Z B Falcons, founder and past president of the Achievement Forum, member and past president of St. Joseph Young men's sociiety.

He was also an honary life president of Centrella, a former Boy cout Master, served as treasurer of the Retired SBd Firefighters Association, a lifetime member of IN Fire CHiefs Association, life time member of International Fire Chiefs Association, member of the St Mary's Catholic Church Choir in Niles MI and the Forever Learning Institute Choir.

He was the organizer for the Inner City Catholic League Sports Program and he coached football and basketball for 17 years at Holy Cross Catholic Elementary School.  He had also served as special agent to Santa CLaus in delivering toys to children for the Salvation Army.  -- Kaniewski Funeral Home.
