Notes for STANISLAUS GLON:

Stanislaw "Steve
or Stanley" GLON was born on February 10, 1880 in Crumstown,
IN. Birth date verified from the
marriage license. Steve was born with a
slight stutter. He died on November 10,
1941 in Crumstown, IN. Steve was described as a gentle, kind,
comical, good-hearted, honest and the life of the
party. During their parties at their
home, he would perform a Russian dance to entertain his guests. Died as a result of prostrate cancer(carcinoma prostrate on the Death Certificate). He immigrated in about 1885. A note on his daughters
marriage license indicates this?
Stanislaw "Steve
or Stanley" GLON was married to Kustancyja
(Constance) "Gustie" LEDA (daughter of
Joseph (Michael?) LEDA and Maria(Maryanna)
WOZNIAK) on October 13, 1909 in Terre Coupe, IN. The marriage was performed by Rev. A Jubowicz. Steve and Gustie were a social couple and
like dances and parties. About every two
months, they would roll up the carpet in the front room and have a dance. They would dance all night with their
friends' and relatives' children sleeping in another room.
Notes for CONSTANCE LEDA:
Source Don Scherpereel
. Kustancyja
(Constance) "Gustie" LEDA was born on
February 5, 1885 in Crumstown, IN. She died on June 14, 1959 in Crumstown, IN. The furneral was held at St. Stanislaus Kostka
with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. She was ill with diabetis. Gustie was
approximately 42 years old when she found out she had a brain tumor. She became paralyzed in the legs, went blind
and could hardly talk. At that point,
nobody in the area had survived a brain tumor.
Gustie went to the hospital for surgery and
told the doctor that she would live, despite being told that if she survived
the surgery she would live only about 10 more years. For the next nine days, neighbors and friends
gathered in her yard at noon and said the rosary, asking God for Gustie to either recover or to give her peace. When Gustie came out of the surgery, she could see and recovered
very quickly. Gustie's
equilibrium was off after the brain surgery and sometimes she would walk
sideways. Years later her condition
deteriorated, but she still surpassed the doctor's prognosis. It was a miracle for the Glon
family.
Shortly after her
husband, Steve, died, the U.S. joined World War II and
soon all four sons were serving their country.
Gustie worked at Studebaker's during this
time.
Gustie showed her independent spirit, in the fact, that
while a widow she received and turned down two marriage proposals.
In her late sixties, Gustie had to take insulin for diabetes but toward the end
of her life there were no signs of the illness.
Gustie enjoyed trips to Florida and flew alone, in order to
meet relatives there.
A room that was
important to her was her parlor. In the
old farmhouse, she had a room with French doors, fine things and velvet sofas,
which were unusual for farmhouses. She
was a cigar maker when she was married. A housewife later in
life. Stanislaw "Steve or
Stanley" GLON and Kustancyja (Constance) "Gustie" LEDA had the following children:

Notes for VIRGINIA GLON:
Koch, Virginia G.
Jan. 9, 1923 - Sept. 8,
2008
SOUTH BEND - Today we
lost our angel on earth to be our angel in heaven. Our beloved Virginia G. Koch
(nee Glon) went to be with the God she
so believed in. There is an emptiness in our hearts,
but her memory will be with us always. Virginia was one of nine children born
to Hattie G. Glon (nee Andrysiak)
and Henry A. Glon. Preceding her in death were her parents,
Hattie and Henry; her brothers, Theodore, Joseph, Frank, Casmier
and Ben; sisters, Irene Szynski, Adeline Siders and Esther Heintzelman;
and a nephew, Dean Heintzelman. Virginia worked at Bendix for 35 years before retiring. Virginia married the
love of her life, Harold L. Koch, in September 1950. They had their own
business, Lydick Tavern, for several years. They
loved dancing and loved to travel and have been to almost all the states.
Virginia was always busy. She did handwork, knit, crochet, needlepoint and
ceramics. She took various classes, loved to read, garden and spend time with
family. She was a Notre Dame fan and was able to see Notre Dame beat San Diego
State. Virginia also liked to gamble. She loved to go to the boat, and if she
won it was a great day, and if she lost, oh well, we had fun anyway. Her loving
husband, Harold, survives along with nieces, Darlene Hite, Kathleen (Joe) Cornelis and Michaelene
"Mickey" Lane; and a nephew, Joseph (Karen) Heintzelman.
Darlene's children, Tim Austin of Texas, Christine Ann (David) Pilarski of Waunakee, WI, and Neal Patrick of Mishawaka;
Kathleen's children, Melanie (Jim) Praklet of
Edwardsburg, MI, and Jon (Gretchen) Cornelis of
Granger, IN; Joseph's children, Leisa Heintzelman and Amy (Jeffrey) Dee of South Bend, Joel and
Laura (Tony) D'Amico of Chicago, IL. Christine Ann's
children, Adam, Alyssa, Amanda and Alex of Waunakee. Melanie's children,
Justin, Rebekah, Moriah and
Abigal Praklet of
Edwardsburg, MI; Jon's children, Kaitlynn, Christian
and Jeremiah Cornelis of Granger, IN; Joseph's
children, Leisa Heintzelman
and Amy (Jeffrey) Dee of South Bend, Joel Heintzelman
and Laura (Tony) D'Amico of Chicago, IL; and Amy's son, Tate Heintzelman of Granger. Virginia was the guardian of her
niece, Michaelene "Mickey" (Gerry) Lane.
Mickey's children, April Suzanne and Eric Andrew (Trish) Lane, came to know
Virginia and Harold as Grandma and Grandpa, and great-grandparents to April's
children, Alexandra Bianca and Madeleine Louisa; and Eric's children, Jack Christian,
Charles Andrew and Jensen Alexander Lane. Virginia was always there for us.
Always there to listen, talk, to just hold a hand, or give a hug letting us
know how much she loved us. She had a wicked sense of humor and almost never
stopped moving. She was up before dawn, baked cookies, her famous "Robert
Redford" cake, and her specialties of barbecued ribs and party potatoes.
She had all her chores done before most people were even awake. Her Christmas
dinners were something we looked forward to all year. Harold cared lovingly for
Virginia during her illness and was a wonderful caregiver. He loved her dearly
and was there for her tending to all her needs, with love, respect and dignity.
We would like to thank The Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, for the
wonderful care they gave Virginia and our family. Visitation for Virginia will
be held from 4 to 8 PM Thursday, September 11, in the Kaniewski
Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend. A
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 AM Friday in St. John the
Baptist Church, with entombment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, South Bend.
Memorial contributions may be made to The Center for Hospice and Palliative
Care, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637; or to Hello Gorgeous of
Hope, 1130 Altgeld St., South Bend, IN 46614. To send

Walter "Lot"
GLON was born on May 27, 1914 in South Bend, IN. He died on March 29, 1948 in Milwaukee,
WI. Died from
tuberculosis. He was one of the
first people to receive Streptomycin.
In a letter he wrote to his sister on Wed. 19, 1947 he said , "First of all I am getting to feel better every
day. I got 108 shots of Streptomycin up
until now. Sis, I am not to bad off that
I will die right away. But their is one
thing, don't let no one tell you about Stripto, cause
the doctor's here don't know themselves.
They are only in experimental stage, one thing
they do know is it will stop TB. When I
came in here I was in very good shape only I had a little stuff in my left
lung. But it spread so fast to my
right. ( Please
don't tell no one about my condition.) When my blood went to heck.
I think everything went bad.
This Strepto makes us very dizzy. I feel like I am drunk all the time. They check our Kidneys-blood and our hearing
once a week. The Doctors watch us 11 guys very close. Sis I will close I am so dizzy. Excuse my
writing. God Bless you all. Give my best regards, to ma. I gained 4 pounds last week. Bro Lot."
He wrote another
letter to Antonia around Christmas:
"Dear Sis,
I am sending you $12 now and I will send $10 later. So you can buy Xmass
presents for my wife and children. $5
for each kid and buy 3 pears of nylon socks for Sophie's birthday and the rest
buy her a Xmass present such
as in clothes. I hope you can
understand. How is
Bill and Joan and yourself. Isure hope you are in good health. Did you move yet. I must close, God Bless, you all. Love Bro. Lot" He served in the military joined the
army in November of 194. Lot was part of
the 489th Ambulance Company which was activated at Fort Dix N.J. in May of 1943
as Company F of the 343rd Medical Regiment.
In July the company moved to Madison Barracks N.Y. where basic and unit
training were taken. The company
commenced a five month period of field work divided between the West Virginia
Maneuver Area and the Louisiana Maneuver Area.
In April they were sent to Camp Van Dorn Mississippi and entered
barracks for the first time since leaving Madison 5 months earlier. They left Mississippi in August arriving in
Scotland and traveling to England by rail.
In September they landed in France, assigned to the 9th army. November found them in Belgium and a small
portion of the company was in operation evacuating casualties from Engineer and
Field Artillery battalion aid stations.
From the time of there arrival in England the unit again returned to
living in the field but in early December it moved to Holland where quarters
were provided in private homes -- all on one street with a cafe at the corner
serving as kitchen and headquarters.
This ideal condition lasted only two weeks for when Van Runstedt launched his counter offensive in Belgium the unit
was rapidly moved to that area and became attached to the 1st Army. During the period of the Bulge Battle the
489th evacuated casualties from the 82nd Airborne Division the 3rd, 7th and 9th
armored Divisions as well as the 30th, 75th and 106th Infantry Divisions. This was the first major operation in which
the unit was engaged and in spite of severe conditions due to
ice and snow and enemy action over 7000 casualties were evacuated in a
period of about six weeks. An ambulance
company is capable of evacuating casualties from as many as three infantry
divisions at one time or from all three combat commands of an armored division
and during the bulge battle the 489th was always in support of at least two and
sometimes three units. Following the
close of this engagement the company returned to the 9th Army and when the
crossing of the Roer river
was made the company was engaged in evacuating all three combat commands of the
5th Armored Division during this operation.
For the Rhine river crossing the company
operated with the 35th Infantry Division.
Other units supported included the 8th Armored and the 29the Infantry
Division and the 7th armored Division with which organization they crossed the
Elbe river and continued on to the Baltic Sea. Following the defeat of Germany, the 2nd Armored division was ordered to prepare for the occupation
of Berlin and the 489th was selected to support them. However, redeployment plans made it
impossible for them to remain with the 2nd Armored and they withdrew to prepare
for shipment home. ----- The ambulance drivers from this
company evacuated over 12,000 casualties and drove a total of 1,200,000,000
patient miles without a serious accident.
This report comes from The Camp Swift Baron, Camp Swift Texas, Wednesday, August
15, 1945. He served in the military.

Notes for WALTER SZYNSKI:
Obituary: Walter S. Szynski Jr.
July 16, 1939 -- Sept.
4, 2005
Walter S.
"Wally" Szynski Jr., 66, of North Liberty,
IN, passed away Sunday, Sept. 4, 2005, surrounded by his loving family. Wally
fought a long and courageous battle with systemic sclerosis, a form of
scleroderma.
Wally was born July 16,
1939, in South Bend, to the late Walter S. and Irene (Glon)
Szynski. In 1961, he married the former Sandra K. Szucs, who survives along with the children Wally was so
very proud of, Tammi (Ron) Hamilton of North Liberty,
Tina (Kevin) Hawk of Cape Coral, Florida, Lisa (Victor) Vukovits
of North Liberty and Brent (Robin) Szynski of Granger.
Wally had 12 grandchildren who loved him very much. Ronnie (a
special angel for all of his help), Nolan and Carley
Hamilton, Lance, Tyler and Conner Hawk, Blake, Loren and Jack Vukovits, Skylar, Camryn and Bradyn Szynski. Through his illness, the grandchildren
would do whatever they could to help him by keeping him company and getting him
whatever he needed when he couldn't do it himself. For the past 10 years, every
Friday was family dinner night at Grandma and Grandpa's. Grandpa loved having
the grandkids around, but when it was eight o'clock, he would yell
"Curfew" and it was time to go home. We are so thankful that we had
this special time together as a family. Also surviving are Wally's three
sisters, Barbara J. Toth and Cecilia J. (Joseph) Cowsert of South Bend, Elizabeth S. (Michael) Kozloski of Granger, Uncle Frank "Bill" and Irene
Szynski, and Aunt Virginia (Harold) Koch of South
Bend, along with many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Wally graduated from
Washington High School in 1957, and joined the U.S. Marine Corps, stationed in
California for three years as a combat engineer. In 1960 he joined the South
Bend Police Department and was promoted to detective sergeant in 1971. During
his police career he received many commendations, awards and he was a marksman.
After 21 years on the police force, Wally retired. Wally worked several
part-time jobs, helped Sandy with her photo business and helped to build the
North Liberty Youth League baseball park. Wally was an avid sports fan,
especially Notre Dame. He said that he wanted to see one more Notre Dame football game, and he did. Thank you, Notre Dame, for
winning on Saturday night.
Through your life, you
meet wonderful and caring people. The family would especially like to thank
Doctors David Varner, Brent Mohr (and Angie) and Walter Filipek
(and Chrissy), Michael J. Anderson, Atty., Marilyn Wuthrich and Terri Wise of Martin's, the North Liberty
Volunteer Ambulance Service and Aunt Dovie for the
potato soup he loved so much.
Friends may call from 2
to 8 p.m. today, Sept. 7, in Palmer Guisinger Funeral
Home, 3718 S. Michigan Street, South Bend. Funeral services will be held at 11
a.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, in the Palmer Guisinger
Chapel, officiated by Donald Cornelius, chaplain of the Fraternal Order of Police
#36 and Captain Ed Friend of the South bend Police
Department. Military graveside services will follow at Sumpton
Prairie Cemetery.

son of STANISLAUS BORLIK and ANNA MAKIELSKI. He was born
March 19, 1912 in Crumstown, In,
and died January 29, 1999 in Crumstown, In.

Obituaries for 2001/10/06
Elizabeth A. Borlik
Sept. 29, 1913 - Oct. 4, 2001
Elizabeth A. Borlik,
88, formerly of Inwood Road, North Liberty,
died at
9:30 a.m. Thursday in Country Care West, Brick Road, after a four year illness.
She was born Sept. 29, 1913, to
Joseph and Mary (Glon) Wroblewski
in
New Carlisle, Ind.
She had lived in the area her entire life.
Elizabeth was a 1934 graduate of
Central High School. Her desire to attend
nursing school
was put aside because of the Depression and she went
to work at Ball
Band in Mishawaka.
She married Joseph P. Borlik on April 20, 1940. They lived on the
Crumstown farm for more than 50
years. He died on Jan. 29, 1999. She
is also
preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Ann Borlik; and
three
sisters, Stella Bladecki, Helen Wroblewski and
Theresa Wroblewski.
Elizabeth is survived by a
daughter, Kathleen Borlik of South Bend;
two sons,
Thomas (Darlene) of Granger and William (Davina) of
North
Liberty; four grandchildren,
Jeffrey of Los Angeles, Calif., Emily
Borlik of
Chicago, Ill., Laura and Michael Borlik, both of North
Liberty; two sisters, Martha Wyant and Frances Andrews, both of
South Bend; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Strootbandt of South Bend and
Henrietta Bilinski
of North Liberty; and brothers-in-law, Leonard
Borlik and Stanley (Dorothy) Borlik, both of South Bend. She is also
survived
by her caregivers, Vel and Bob Nielsen, their family
and
their
loving staff.
Elizabeth was a member of St.
Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church and
the Rosary
Sodality.
Mom was the consummate housekeeper,
Polish cook and mother. She
worried
about everything - the children, grandchildren, the weather
and Roxie
the dog. We will long remember the apple pies, noodles and
cakes that
appeared each weekend. We were all nudged, hovered over
and
reminded at holidays to keep eating because there was more.
Spring cleaning and laundry were
her professions and ironing an
avocation.
We think the angels will be a lot neater because Mom has
taken the
steam iron.
She enjoyed a shopping trip with
Kate and her endless searches for
the
perfect black suit and a com fortable pair of walking
shoes. She
loved to
end a summer day on the front porch or backyard swing with
Dad listening to
stories and crickets. We will miss her dearly but
now she
doesn't have to worry, as much.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m.
Sunday in Kaniewski Funeral Home,
3545 N. Bendix Drive, where a parish rosary will be said at 6 p.m.
A
funeral
Mass will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Stanislaus Kostka
Catholic Church, Terre Coupee.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made
to Hospice of St. Joseph County
or the
church.

Notes for JOSEPH P BORLIK:
Joseph P. Borlik
March 19, 1912 - Jan. 29, 1999

86, of Inwood Road, North Liberty, Ind., died
after a
two-week illness at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 29, in Saint
Joseph's Care
Center.
Mr. Borlik
retired in 1976 as an assembly supervisor with RACO. He
worked
there for over 42 years. He also continued to farm.
He was born on March 19, 1912, in Crumstown, to Steve and Anna
(Makielski). On April 20, 1940, in South Bend, Ind.,
Joseph married
Elizabeth Wroblewski.
For more than 50 years of their married life,
they lived
and farmed on the same road that Borliks have lived
on
since the
1880's.
Elizabeth survives along with a
daughter, Kathleen Borlik of South
Bend; two sons, Thomas (Darlene) of
Granger, Ind.; and William
(Davina)
of North Liberty; four grandchildren, Jeffrey Borlik,
of
Redondo Beach, Calif.; Emily Borlik of Granger; Laura and Michael
Borlik,
both of North Liberty; two sisters, Evelyn Stroobandt
of
South Bend and Henrietta Bilinski of North Liberty; two brothers,
Leonard Borlik
and Stanley (Dorothy) Borlik, both of South Bend; and
by two
sisters-in-law, Frances Andrews and Martha Wyant,
both of
South Bend.

daughter, Mary Ann Borlik; a sister,
Margaret
Marshall; and by a brother, Edward Borlik.
Family and friends may call from 2
until 8 p.m. today in the St.
Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S.
Mayflower Road, where a Rosary will be
said at 4
p.m. Services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday at St.
Stanislaus Kostka
Catholic Church, Terre Coupee, with burial to
follow in
St. Joseph Cemetery.
Mr. Borlik
was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka Catholic Church
and
of the
ushers club.
The family, the farm and the church
were always important to our
Dad. As a
farmer, he appreciated the land, the first strawberry
blossoms,
the first red tomato, the spring rain and hard work. A day
was not
completed until the last chore was done and then it was time
to sit on
the backyard swing.
Dad had a wonderful sense of humor
and loved to tell stories of
plowing
with horses, selling newspapers and dances at the Crumstown
Hall.
Although he is gone, there will be
countless stories that will come
to mind
over the years. We will always miss him.
